Plant and machinery auctions sell earthmoving equipment, tractors, trucks, mining and construction machinery. Lots come from contractors upgrading fleets, business closures, liquidations and finance houses, and many sales now run as timed online auctions.
Inspect machines on viewing days, check hour meters and service records, and confirm who removes the item and by when. Buyers normally arrange and pay for loading and transport, so price that into your bid along with the buyer's premium and VAT.

Buying at plant and machinery auctions
Are machines sold with a warranty?
Generally not. Plant and machinery auctions are almost always voetstoots, so inspect, ask for service history and, where possible, see the machine running before you bid.
Who handles transport after the auction?
The buyer does. Auctioneers set a removal deadline and may recommend transporters, but loading, abnormal-load permits and delivery are usually your responsibility.
Can businesses claim VAT back on auction purchases?
If the seller is a VAT vendor, VAT is charged on the sale and a registered business buyer can normally claim it as input tax. Ask the auctioneer for a valid tax invoice.
